Salyers Elementary School

Salyers Elementary School opened its doors in 1959 as Spring Elementary School - the District's first elementary school.

In September 1985, Spring Elementary was renamed Salyers Elementary School for former Board member J.O. (Jimbo) Salyers, now deceased, and his wife, Gertie Mae, a 1926 Spring High graduate. Mr. Salyers served on the Board from 1938-1956 and never missed a meeting in those 18 years. He served under the appointment and election process, and it has been said he was willing to serve when no one else would. Mrs. Salyers was very active in many school activities and served as a Spring ISD election judge for more than 30 years.  Perhaps her most significant contributions were through the PTA, which she served as president even before her children were in school, while they were in school, and again as a grandmother.

The original Salyers campus was located at 922 Wunsche Loop before the new school opened its doors in August 2003.
